ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University women's basketball team dropped its home-opener, 83-56, to Loras College at R.A. Faganel Hall.
The Bluejays (0-4) shot 46.15 percent (6-of-13) in the opening quarter and only trailed 20-17 at the end of the first.
The Duhawks (2-1) outscored Elmhurst in every quarter, posting 25 points in the second quarter to extend their lead to 45-31 at the break.
Loras scored 38 points in the second-half compared to Elmhurst's 25 to earn its first road-win of the season.
Taylor Harazin led Elmhurst offensively with 19 points and nine boards, while
Ella Riley chipped in 12 points off of four three-pointers. Kendall Schieppe and
Katie Matrise added in seven points apiece in the loss.
The Duhawks boasted three players in double-figures. Leading the way were Madison Fleckenstein and Sami Martin with 17 points each and seven and eight rebounds respectively. Cierra Bachmann finished with 11 points, while Silvana Scarsella posted nine points and four boards in the win.
Loras shot 45.6 percent (31-of-68), while Elmhurst shot 35.2 percent (19-of-54) from the field. The Bluejays shot 22.2 percent (6-of-27) from behind the arc, while the Duhawks shot 26.5 percent (9-of-34) from downtown.
