WHEATON, Ill. – The Elmhurst University women's basketball team fell in its opening contest of the Beth Baker Classic, 58-46, against UW-Platteville at Wheaton College.
The Pioneers led from the first whistle and never allowed the Bluejays to get closer than within one point.
Elmhurst (0-2) was led by
Katie Matrise who finished with a team-high 11 points and four rebounds. Kendall Schieppe and
Payton Schmidt chipped in seven points apiece, while Reilly Webb led the team with seven rebounds.
Sarah Mueller led the way for UW-Platteville with 12 points and four rebounds. Following closely behind were Allison Heckert, Macey Banasik and Ella Mackiewicz who posted nine points each. Mackiewicz also finished with a game-high eight boards in the win for the Pioneers.
UW-Platteville shot 43.8 percent (21-of-48) from the field compared to Elmhurst's 33.3 percent (16-of-48). The Pioneers also fared better from behind the arc shooting 42.1 percent (8-of-19) to the Bluejays 31.3 percent (5-of-16).
