Bluejays Drop a Pair in Day Two of Invitational

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University volleyball team dropped two matches against Ohio Wesleyan University and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in the final day of the Elmhurst University Invitational at R.A. Faganel Hall.

Ohio Wesleyan 3, Elmhurst 0

The Bluejays (6-15/3-4 CCIW) struggled offensively in the first two sets falling 9-25 and 17-25, before dropping a tight third set 23-25.

Ohio Wesleyan (10-13/4-2 NCAC) hit .444 as a team, finishing with 44 kills and eight errors in 81 attempts.  Eliza Richardson posted a game-high 12 kills and three aces, while Kailtyn Peters and Claire Solberg each chipped in 11 kills in the win. Olivia Osuna finished with a team-high 36 assists, while Grace Cummings led the team with nine digs.

Elmhurst hit .140 as a team, finishing with 29 kills and 17 errors in 86 attempts. Jada Wiley led the team with nine kills, while Elise Rossing followed closely behind with eight kills. Hannah Horn posted a team-high 13 assists and three digs in the loss.
 
Wisconsin-Oshkosh 3, Elmhurst 2

Elmhurst (6-16/3-4 CCIW) fell in five sets in the final match of the tournament to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh 25-21, 21-25, 25-23, 20-25, 11-15.

The Bluejays took the first set after nine ties throughout the match. With scores tied at 20 apiece,  a 5-1 run gave Elmhurst the 1-0 lead in the match.

In set two, the Titans led by as many as six, but Elmhurst chipped away and tied the score up at 19 and again at 21, before four errors by the Bluejays gave UW-Oshkosh the second set.

Set three was no different with a back-and-forth battle between both squads. Elmhurst held on for a 25-23 win to take a 2-1 lead.

Despite a 19-19 tie late in the game, the Titans closed out set four with a 6-1 run to take the set.

In set five, UW-Oshkosh (26-4/5-1 WIAC) took an early 4-3 lead over Elmhurst and never gave up the lead to earn the win.

Elmhurst hit .201 as a team, finishing with 60 kills and 24 errors in 179 attempts. Jada Wiley posted 18 kills and 19 digs, while Elise Rossing added in 15 kills and two blocks of her own. Hannah Horn led the team in assists with 30, while Kellyn Kennedy chipped in 22 assists and 10 digs. Keely Larson finished with seven blocks, while Payton Ceh ended with 22 digs and a team-high four aces.

UW-Oshkosh hit .261 as a team, finishing with 70 kills and 24 errors in 176 attempts. Carissa Sundholm led the Titans with 18 kills, four blocks and 15 digs, while teammate Riley Kindt added 15 kills in the win. Kalli Mau posted a game-high 39 assists, while Abby Fregien led the team in digs with 25.

The Bluejays travel to Carthage College for a key CCIW matchup with the Firebirds on Wednesday, October 26 at 7:00 p.m.
