ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University volleyball team topped Illinois Wesleyan 20-25, 25-19, 25-19, 29-27 at R.A. Faganel Hall.
Elmhurst (6-12/3-4 CCIW) fought a tight back and forth match to secure the victory.
Lacey Kaiser secured the victory in the fourth set with a pivotal service ace.
Illinois Wesleyan (12-9/2-4 CCIW) took the first set but was unable to secure the tight conference match.
In the second set with the teams knotted at six the Bluejays went on a 10-0 run to take a strong lead. The Titans fought back to get within one point at 17-16. Elmhurst finished the set with a 4-0 run to knot the match at one set a piece.
Set three was tight throughout with neither team taking a large lead.
Jada Wiley assisted on two of the final five Bluejays' points in a 5-1 run for the second set win.
The Titans seemed to bounce back taking an 8-1 lead in the fourth set. The Bluejays continued to chip their way back into the match with a five-point run to get back into it 17-16. The two teams exchanged points with a finish by Kasier.
The Bluejays earned the win hitting .218 with 61 kills and 24 errors in 170 attempts. Leading the way for Elmhurst was
Jada Wiley who finished with 20 kills and 17 digs.
Elise Rossing tallied 13 kills, while Kaiser added in eight kills and one service ace.
Kellyn Kennedy led the team in assists with 24 followed closely by
Hannah Horn with 23.
Payton Ceh finished with 25 digs, four assists and one ace in the win.
The Titans hit .149 with 51 kills and 26 errors in 168 attempts. Evy Makris led the way with 11 kills and five blocks. Taylor French finished with nine kills and 13 digs. Abby Erdman finished with 29 assists and one ace.
Elmhurst hosts Albion College on October 21 at 4:00 p.m. to start the two-day Elmhurst Invitational at R.A. Faganel Hall.
