WHITEWATER, Wis. - The Elmhurst University volleyball team came up just short, in a tightly contested loss at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, falling 29-27, 26-24, 25-22. 

Elmhurst (1-3), opened up a quick 15-10 lead in the opening set. Whitewater tied the score at 20-20, but the Bluejays earned a pair of set points at 24-22. Whitewater (3-0) fought off both set points before eventually taking the set at 29-27. 

The Bluejays started quickly once again in the second set, building a 19-15 lead and leading 23-21 before Whitewater closed the set with a 5-1 run to move up 2-0. 

The Warhawks took the early lead in the third before Elmhurst pulled even at 15-15. Whitewater used a 5-1 run to go up 20-16 before eventually finishing the set at 25-22 to seal the match.

Elmhurst hit .126 for the contest with 37 kills and 21 errors in 127 attacks. Jada Wiley and Taylor Zurliene paced Elmhurst with 10 kills apiece. Zurliene added 16 digs while Valerie Thomas totaled a team-leading 20 digs. Payton Ceh (14) and Emily Finkbeiner (12) also reached double figures in digs. Emily Duis added nine kills and five blocks for the Bluejays. Erin Murray led the squad in assists with 30. 

Whitewater was paced by Erin McNeil and Jenna Weinfurt as both players totaled 10 kills.

The Bluejays host Illinois Wesleyan University next Wednesday, September 15.
