Volleyball Team Stumbles Against UW-La Crosse

La CROSSE, Wis. - The Elmhurst University volleyball team suffered a three-set setback to University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on the opening night of the UW-La Crosse Invitational. 

Elmhurst lipped to 1-5 with the loss while UW-La Crosse improved to 10-1. UW-La Crosse won by scores of 25-10, 25-14, 25-23. 

The Eagles led from wire-to-wire in the first set, cruising to the 25-10 win. The Eagles used an 8-2 run in the second to turn a two-point lead into an eight-point cushion at 17-9 before pulling away for the 25-14 victory. 

The Bluejays battled back in the third set, matching the Eagles point for point. The score was tied 17 times and the lead changed hands nine times in the third set. Elmhurst led 20-19 before UW-La Crosse pulled even at 21-21. The Eagles scored the next three points to go in front 24-21. Elmhurst fought off a pair of match points before the Eagles put the match away. 

Elmhurst finished the match with just 18 kills while totaling 21 errors in 104 swings. UW-La Crosse totaled 41 kills and 22 errors in 120 swings. 

Jada Wiley paced Elmhurst in the loss with six kills while Emily Duis added five kills. Katelyn Bower added three blocks while Valerie Thomas led the Bluejays in digs with 27. Erin Murray totaled eight assists for the Bluejays. 

UW-La Crosse was aced by Emma Lawrence's 15 kills and and 17 digs. Brianne Korducki added eight kills for the Eagles.

Elmhurst takes on Wartburg College and Simpson College on the tournament's second day.
