CAROL STREAM, Ill. – The Elmhurst University baseball team closed out its season after falling 9-2 to North Central College on the third day of the CCIW Tournament.

Elmhurst (18-25) fell behind 1-0 in the second inning after Paul Beverly hit a solo homer for North Central (35-8). The Cardinals tacked on three runs in the second, keyed by a two-out, two-run single from Justin Rios.

Elmhurst cut into the Cardinals' lead in the fourth, scoring a run on a
Lorenzo Farino groundout. The Bluejays added a run in the fifth to make the score 4-2. Elmhurst loaded the bases with two outs and
Tyler Kledzik drew a walk to force in a run. A strikeout ended the Bluejays' scoring threat.

North Central responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth and tacked on two runs in the sixth to pull away for the 9-2 victory.

Elmhurst finished with seven hits with
Paul Fomby and
Trevor Lorek collecting two hits apiece for Elmhurst.

Joseph Kalish took the loss for Elmhurst, working four innings and allowing five hits and two earned runs. He walked one and struck out three. Jason Shanner picked up the victory for North Central, tossing a complete game and allowing seven hits and two runs. He walked one and fanned nine.
