Bluejays Fall 7-3 to #24 Augustana

MOLINE, Ill. - The Elmhurst University baseball team dropped a 7-3 CCIW contest at 24th-ranked Augustana College.

Elmhurst slipped to 17-21 overall and 12-18 in league play. Augustana improved to 31-7 overall and 23-7 in league play with the victory.

The Bluejays took advantage of an Augustana error to plate a run in the second inning and grab a quick 1-0 lead. The Bluejays' lead was short lived as the Vikings tied the game with a run in the bottom of the second on an Elmhurst wild pitch. The Vikings went in front with a run in the bottom of the fourth, but Elmhurst quickly tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth. Carter Truong doubled to lead off the inning and came around to score on a Trey Romay sacrifice fly.

The Vikings broke things open in the sixth, sending 10 batters to the plate and scoring four runs, including two on a bases loaded walk and a hit batter with the bases loaded. Romay scored on a Paul Fomby sacrifice fly in the seventh to make the score 6-3, but the Vikings tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh to come away with the 7-3 win.

Lorenzo Farino finished 3-for-5 at the plate with a run scored to pace Elmhurst's offense. Kevin Johlie added two hits for the Bluejays. Kyle Wise collected three hits and scored two runs for the Vikings.

Alex Kielion made the start and took the loss for the Bluejays. Kielion worked 5.2 innings and allowed nine hits and six runs. He struck out four while not issuing a walk. Jacob Irwin picked up the win in relief for the Vikings, tossing one inning and allowing just one run.

Elmhurst wraps up its reguar season on Saturday (May 15) by hosting Augustana for a doubleheader.
