ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University men's tennis team dropped a 7-2 CCIW contest to Illinois Wesleyan University at the Brune Tennis Courts.
Elmhurst (1-6/1-4 CCIW) scored a pair of wins in singles play while Illinois Wesleyan (7-6/1-4 CCIW) won four singles matches and swept the three doubles contests.
All three doubles matches were closely contested. Demetrious Triantafel and Carter Burk scored an 8-2 win over Elmhurst's
Justin Penados and
Ben Cavka at No. 1. Justin Piotrowski and Evan Turnball scored an 8-5 victory over
Florin Stan and
Brandon Fulmer at No. 2. Ryan McCoy and Dylan Mikaili scored an 8-5 win over
Shawn Sabaricos and
Tavious Imperial at No. 3.
In singles play, Triantafel defeated Penados 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 while Burk followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Fulmer at No. 2. McCoy toppled Cavka in three sets (6-7, 6-4, 8-4) at No. 3.
The Bluejays scored wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Sabaricos upended Piotrowski 6-2, 6-3 at No 4. Despite needing to borrow a teammate's racket after breaking strings in three of his own, Stan scored a 7-5, 6-1 win over Turnball at No. 5.
Mikaili scored a 6-0, 6-2 win over Imperial at No. 6 singles for IWU.
Elmhurst hosts North Central College on Tuesday, April 20.
