Bluejays Downed by Carthage 14-7

KENOSHA, WIS. – The Elmhurst men's lacrosse team fell to Carthage 14-7 on the road.

In the first quarter, Andrew Frerich led the Bluejays (8-3) with two goals to help the Bluejays take an early 3-2 lead. The Firebirds (8-2) responded by winning the following four faceoffs and ripping off a 4-0 run to build a three-point lead (6-3). Jake Grebe responded with a shot from 13 yards out to bring Elmhurst back within two goals. Carthage continued to win faceoffs and converted two of their three extra man opportunities to lead the Bluejays 9-5 at halftime.

In a back-and-forth third quarter, the Bluejays were able to edge the Firebirds 3-2, trailing 11-7 entering the fourth. Carthage held Elmhurst to a scoreless fourth quarter while scoring three goals to secure the 14-7 victory.

Elmhurst was led by Ben Luke's three points, two goals and one assist on the night. Frerich netted two goals of his own while three Bluejays posted one goal each.
Carthage was led by Andrew Johnson and Colin Poitras who netted four goals each. Conner Smith and Michael Stell each recorded three points while Noah Linder added two goals on the night.

  • Elmhurst totaled six penalties while Carthage had three.
  • Carthage posted 23 shots on goal while Elmhurst totaled 15.
  • The Firebirds edged the Bluejays 33-27 on the ground.
  • The two teams split at the faceoff "x", winning 12 faceoffs each.
The Bluejays return to action on Wednesday, April 21, when they host the University of Dubuque at 7:30 P.M.
