INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Elmhurst University volleyball team closed out its season by placing third at the AVCA Division III Tournament after splitting a pair of matches on the final day.
Elmhurst wrapped up its season with an 8-2 overall record after falling to Carthage College in the semifinals before defeating Transylvania University in the consolation contest.
CARTHAGE 3, ELMHURST 0 - Elmhurst dropped its semifinal contest to Carthage in three set (25-20, 25-14, 25-23).
Payton Froats led the Bluejays in the loss with seven kills and a block.
Kayla Mast added six kills and six digs while
Emily Duis and
Taylor Zurliene finished with five kills apiece.
Erin Murray tallied a team-leading 23 assists while
Valerie Thomas led the team in digs with nine.
ELMHURST 3, TRANSYLVANIA 1 - Elmhurst closed its season with a 25-16, 19-25, 25-20, 27-25 win over Transylvania in the consolation match.
Duis led the way for the Bluejays with 16 kills and seven blocks. Mast was named to the all-tournament team after finishing with 14 kills and 13 digs. Zurliene added 11 kills and five digs while Froats tallied seven kills and three blocks. Murray finished with 42 assists, four kills and eight digs. Thomas tallied a team-leading 18 digs in the win.
