Baseball Team Downs Carthage 11-7

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Elmhurst baseball team improved to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin after defeating Carthage College 11-7.

The Bluejays jumped on the board early as Paul Fomby doubled home a pair of runs in the third. Elmhurst made it 3-0 when Fomby scored on Lorenzo Farino's RBI grounder. Carthage got a run back in the bottom of the third to cut Elmhurst's lead to 3-1.

Elmhurst took advantage of some wildness by the Firebirds as Fomby and Drew Raspolich were hit by pitches with the bases loaded to force in runs and give the Bluejays a 5-1 lead in the fourth. Carthage answered back in the bottom of the fourth, scoring a run on a Matt Pratscher RBI single and then tying the game on a Cody Phelps bases-clearing triple.

The Bluejays moved back in front in the fifth. Tyler Kledzik started the scoring with an RBI single. A base hit from Trey Romay combined with a Carthage error allowed two more runs to score. Fomby capped the scoring in the inning with a RBI single to give Elmhurst a 9-5 lead.

Carthage scored once in the bottom of the fifth, but RBI singles from Troy Taller and Carter Truong in the eighth helped Elmhurst pull away for the 11-7 win.

Fomby led the Bluejays at the plate, finishing 2-for-5 with four RBIs. Taller added two hits, scored two runs and knocked in a run. Truong, Kledzik and Romay all finished with a hit and two runs scored apiece.

Noah Jordan made the start and took a no-decision for the Bluejays. Jordan worked 3.2 innings and allowed four hits and five runs while walking three and striking out three. J.D. Knight picked up the win in relief, scattering seven hits and two runs over four innings. He walked one and struck out one. Cole Bozzi pitched the final 1.1 innings while not allowing a run.

Carthage's Keith Kutzler took the loss, working 3.2 innings and allowing three hits and five runs. He walked two and stuck out five while also hitting seven batters.
