Softball Team Splits Two With Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University softball team split a doubleheader with Lake Forest College, winning game one 9-4 before falling 13-8 in the night cap.
 
Elmhurst moved to 1-3 on the season with the split.
 
ELMHURST 9, LAKE FOREST 4 (Game One) – Elmhurst scored two runs in the fifth and another pair in the sixth to turn a one-run lead into a 9-4 victory.
 
Elmhurst jumped on the scoreboard with three runs in the first thanks to RBI singles from Amaya Chavez and Jenna Geraci. After Lake Forest scored three runs to pull even in the bottom of the first, the Bluejays reclaimed the lead in the second after Jamie Haas doubled in a pair of runs.
 
Lake Forest scored a run in the third but a two-run single from Alyssa Filkowski in the fifth gave Elmhurst a 7-4 lead. A Mia Riese homer and a Mia Tran double in the sixth gave Elmhurst the 9-4 win.
 
Tran led Elmhurst at the plate, finishing 4-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Filkowski added three hits and knocked in two runs.
 
Brianna Pisauro picked up the win for Elmhurst from the circle, pitching four innings and allowing eight hits and four runs. Jena Hicks pitched three scoreless innings in relief to earn the save.
 
LAKE FOREST 13, ELMHURST 8 (Game Two) – Lake Forest used a pair of big innings to upend Elmhurst 13-8 when the game was called after five innings due to darkness.
 
Lake Forest raced out to a 5-0 lead after three innings before Elmhurst jumped on the scoreboard with three runs in the top of the fourth. Lake Forest blew things open in the bottom of the fourth with eight runs, opening up 13-3 lead in the process.
 
Elmhurst answered back with five runs in the top of the fifth thanks to RBI singles from Chavez and Lauren Polich, but the game was called after the inning due to darkness.
 
Sydni Gizynski took the loss for the Bluejays, working three innings and allowing 12 hits and 12 runs (only six earned). She walked four and fanned one.
 
Elmhurst plays at Rockford University on March 16.
