Bluejays Split Pair With Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Elmhurst University softball team split a doubleheader at Rockford University. The Bluejays dropped game one 8-3 before hammering the Regents 12-2 in game two.

Elmhurst moved to 2-4 on the season with the split.
 
ROCKFORD 8, ELMHURST 3 (Game One) – The Bluejays fell behind 6-0 and never recovered, dropping the opening game to the Regents 8-3.
 
Rockford pushed home a run in the second and then added three runs in the third. Elmhurst struggled defensively in the opening innings, committing three errors leading to four unearned runs. Emily Cox doubled home two runs in the fourth to extend Rockford's lead to 6-0.
 
Jamie Haas and Alana Batista smacked back-to-back RBI doubles in the third to put Elmhurst on the scoreboard. Rockford added a run in the bottom of the sixth before Elmhurst scored its final run of the game in the seventh.
 
Haas knocked in two runs to pace Elmhurst's offense. Mia Tran, Amaya Chavez and Batista recorded two hits apiece for the Bluejays. Cox finished with four RBIs to lead Rockford.
 
Sydni Gizynski took the loss for the Bluejays. She pitched a complete game, allowing just four earned runs and seven hits. She walked three and fanned four.
 
ELMHURST 12, ROCKFORD 2 (Game Two) – Elmhurst used three big innings to run away from Rockford and score a 12-2 win in six innings.
 
Elmhurst jumped out quickly, scoring four times in the first inning. Jackie Orel singled in a pair of runs and Chavez added an RBI double to spark the Bluejays. Elmhurst added a run on a run-scoring single from Haas to extend its lead to 5-0.
 
Rockford scored twice in the bottom of the third to cut the Bluejays' lead down to three, but Elmhurst answered back with four runs in the fourth. Brianna Pissauro singled home a run to start the scoring and Orel followed with a two-run triple. Haas added an RBI single to put the Bluejays in front 9-2.
 
Elmhurst wrapped things up in the sixth with three runs. Haas capped a big day at the plate with a two-run double. Chavez drove in a run with an RBI groundout.
 
Haas finished 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs while Orel finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three driven in. Mia Riese added three hits and scored four runs for the Bluejays.
 
Pissauro picked up the victory from the circle for Elmhurst. She worked all six innings, allowing just one hit and two unearned runs. She walked two and struck out three.
 
Elmhurst plays at Illinois Wesleyan University on Sunday, March 21.
