ELMHURST, ILL.- The Elmhurst women's basketball squad dropped their second game of the week, falling to Wheaton College 76-55.
In the first quarter
Courtney O'Donnell kept the Bluejays in the contest early by scoring their first six points, but the effort wasn't enough to keep up with Wheaton's offense. The thunder ripped off a 12-0 run and led Elmhurst 22-11 at the end of the quarter. After falling behind by 16 points early in the second, the Bluejays battled back and cut the Thunder lead to 12-points before heading to the locker room. O'Donnell led the Bluejays in the first 20 minutes, recording 13 points in the first half.
Wheaton came out hot in the second half, using a 10-0 run to help, extending their lead to 64-42 headed into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter the Bluejays were unable to cut into the Thunder's lead, falling 76-55.
The Bluejays were led by O'Donnell's 17 points and six rebounds. She shot 50 percent (7-of-14) from the field while draining all three of her free throw attempts. O'Donnell was assisted by
Kelly Weyhrich's 10 points and
Marissa Urso's eight points.
Taylor Harazin added four points and eight rebounds in the loss. Elmhurst shot 32 percent (21-of-65) from the field and 27 percent (5-of-18) from the 3-point line.
The Thunder were led by Annie Tate's double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds. Hannah Swider added 20 points, shooting 57 percent (4-of-7) from beyond the arc. Ellie Cassel added 11 points and nine rebounds for Wheaton. The Thunder shot 48 percent (28-of-59) from the field, 43 percent (6-of-14) from beyond the arc, and 88 percent (14-of-16) from the foul line.
The Bluejays will travel to Wheaton College on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 2:00 P.M.
