ELMHURST, ILL.- The Elmhurst women's basketball squad dropped its second-straight game to Wheaton College, falling on the road 69-54.
The Bluejays started out well, building an 8-4 lead while playing solid defense midway through the first quarter. The Thunder responded quickly, ripping off a 11-0 run heading into the second quarter to lead 15-8 after 10 minutes. After a back-n-forth second quarter between both offenses, Wheaton led 31-20 at the half.
The two squads traded buckets for much of the second half as Elmhurst came no closer than a 13-point deficit before Wheaton closed out the game with a 69-54 victory. The Thunder's bench outscored the Bluejays' 29-11. Wheaton dominated the paint on the day, outrebounding the Bluejays 43-31.
The Bluejays were led by
Courtney O'Donnell's 13 points and four rebounds.
Marissa Urso added 12 points and six rebounds. Elana Cabrera added ten points while
Kelly Weyhrich recorded eight of her own. Elmhurst shot 35 percent (20-of-58) from the field, and 82 percent (9-of-11) from the foul line.
The Thunder were led by Hannah Swider's 14 points. Zoe Nordling added 11 points of her own while Ellie Cassel scored nine points and secured 16 rebounds. Hannah Williams recorded nine points and three rebounds on the day. Wheaton shot 43 percent (25-of-58) from the field, 36 percent (5-of-14) from beyond the arc, and 70 percent (14-of-20) from the free throw line on the day.
The Bluejays will travel to Waukesha Wis. on Thursday, February 11, 2021 to take on Carroll University at 7:00 P.M.
