ELMHURST, ILL. – The Elmhurst women's basketball squad fell to Carthage College 58-48 in its final regular season contest.

In a back and forth first quarter the Firebirds (3-9) edged the Bluejays (3-9) 14-12 after 10 minutes. Carthage led by seven at one point in the second quarter, and led the Bluejays 31-26 at halftime.

The Firebirds pulled away in the second half, leading by as many as 15 points and carrying a 14-point lead into the fourth quarter (49-35). Elmhurst cut the lead down to seven points late in the contest, but came no closer as Carthage came away with the 10-point win.  

The Bluejays were led by Courtney O'Donnell's 16 points and six rebounds. Kelly Weyhrich added seven points and three rebounds. Marissa Urso recorded five points and seven rebounds while Elena Cabrera totaled five points and five rebounds. Elmhurst shot 34 percent (18-of-53) from the field, 21 percent (5-of-24) from beyond the arc, and 41 percent (7-of-17) from the foul line.

The Firebirds were led by Lauren Knight's 13 points and three rebounds. Bridgett Barrett totaled nine points and 14 rebounds on the afternoon. Ayanna Ester added nine points and one rebound in the win. Carthage shot 39 percent (21-of-54) from the field, 25 percent (5-of-20) from beyond the arc, and 52 percent (11-of-21) from the foul line.
