ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's basketball squad fell to Millikin University 81-55 at R.A. Faganel Hall.
The Bluejays (2-7) began the game with a 7-0 run and held the Big Blue (6-3) to four points in the first five minutes. At the end of the first quarter Elmhurst held a four-point lead at 19-15. After a back-and-forth second quarter, Millikin pulled away for a slim five-point lead at the end of the first half (32-27).
In the start of the second half the Big Blue shot 41 percent (9-of-22) from the field to build on their existing lead, outscoring the Bluejays 22-10 in the third quarter. Elmhurst was unable to slow down Millikin's offense in the fourth quarter as the Big Blue pulled away for the 81-55 victory. Millikin dominated the paint, outscoring Elmhurst 40-20 on the day. The Big Blue's bench had an impressive day, posting 44 points to Elmhurst's 23.
The Bluejays were led by
Kelly Weyhrich and
Elena Cabrera. They recorded nine points apiece and combined for seven rebounds.
Courtney O'Donnell posted eight points and nine rebounds while
Katelyn Matrise added eight points of her own.
Becca Christlieb came off the bench to record seven points and one rebound. Elmhurst shot 34 percent (20-of-59) from the field, 37 percent (7-of-19) from beyond the arc, and 80 percent (8-of-10) from the foul line.
The Bib Blue were led by Jordan Hildebrand's 16 points and five rebounds. Natalie Snyder recorded 11 points and three rebounds on the night. Elyce Knudsen posted nine points as well. Bailey Coffman and Abby Ratsch each added eight points and combined for five rebounds. Millikin shot 46 percent (31-of-67), 47 percent (9-of-19) from the 3-point line, and 83 percent (10-of-12) from the free throw line.
The Bluejays will travel to Millikin University on Saturday, February 20th at 2:00 P.M.
