Bluejays Stumble to Vikings 58-47

ELMHURST, ILL. – The Elmhurst women's basketball squad fell to North Park 58-47 at home.

The Bluejays (2-6) shot 6-of-17 from the field and knocked down three 3-point attempts to edge the Vikings (4-3) 16-13 at the end of the first quarter. Elmhurst ripped off an 8-0 run to start the second quarter and open up an 11-point cushion. Elmhurst led by nine points with just under three minutes, but North Park closed with a 6-0 run to cut the Bluejays' lead down to only three points (27-24) at the half.  

The Bluejays' offense struggled in the third quarter, shooting just 2-of-12 from the field and generating only one three-point attempt. The Vikings took advantage, going on a 10-0 run before the end of the quarter to open up a 40-32 lead. North Park built on their existing lead in the fourth quarter, opening up a 20-point cushion with three minutes to play. The Vikings' bench outscored the Bluejays' 19-11 on the day.

Elmhurst was led by Kelly Weyhrich's 15 points and four rebounds. Courtney O'Donnell finished just short of a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. Marissa Urso added seven points and three rebounds on the day. Peyton Schmidt added six points and six rebounds. The Bluejays shot 28 percent (16-of-58) from the field and 31 percent (5-of-16) from beyond the arc.

North Park was led by Jayla Johnson's double-double, posting 21 points and 12 rebounds on the day. Emily Czuhajewski added 10 points and four rebounds of her own. Chantel Hairston and Lauren Lee each scored nine points on the day. The Vikings shot 37 percent (21-of-57) from the field, 31 percent (4-of-13) from beyond the arc, and 80 percent (12-of-15) from the foul line.  
 
Elmhurst hosts Millikin University on Thursday, February 18, at 7:00 p.m.
