ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University women's basketball team came up short against Millikin University dropping the contest 85-50.

The Big Blue came out strong scoring 22 points to the Bluejays 14 in the first quarter, creating a comfortable cushion for the rest of the game.

Elmhurst (1-8) struggled offensively in the second quarter posting only five points off of two field goals, while Millikin recorded its highest scoring quarter of the game (23).

At the half, the Bluejays trailed by 26 and would only cut the lead by one for the rest of the contest.

Millikin pulled even further away for the remainder of play to improve to 2-0 in the CCIW.

Elmhurst was led by Katie Matrise who recorded 12 points and two assists in the loss. Payton Schmidt chipped in seven points, while both Marissa Urso and Taylor Harazin added in six apiece.

The Big Blue boasted four players in double-figures in the win. Leading the pack was Bailey Coffman with 19 points and four rebounds. Following closely behind was Elyce Knudsen with 18 points and six rebounds. Jordan Hildebrand added in 14 points and three assists, while Emily White chipped in 12 points.

The Bluejays shot 39.1 percent (18-of-46) from the field compared to the Big Blue's 57.1 percent (32-of-56).

Elmhurst struggled maintaining possession of the ball resulting in 31 turnovers. Millikin took advantage of the mistakes, scoring 37 of their 85 points off of Bluejay turnovers.

The Bluejays head to Chicago on Saturday, December 11 for a CCIW matchup against the Vikings of North Park.
