MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Elmhurst University men's basketball team outscored Manchester College 62-41 in the second half to pull away for a 101-75 road victory.
Elmhurst, ranked 14th in the latest D3hoops.com poll, improved to 10-2 overall with the victory.
The Bluejays raced out to a 20-15 lead in the opening half before Manchester (2-8) battled back to move in front 24-22 with 8:30 remaining. Elmhurst answered back with a 12-3 run to move in front by seven with four minutes left. The Bluejays led 39-34 at the half.
Leading 41-39 early in the second half, Elmhurst ripped off a 12-0 run to go up by 14 with 14 minutes remaining. The Bluejays continued to pull away, using a 17-5 run to open up a 26-point lead with 7:30 left on the clock. Elmhurst led by as many as 32 points before cruising to a 26-point victory.
Elmhurst shot a blistering 59.5 percent (25-of-42) in the second half, finishing the contest shooting 52.6 percent (41-of-78). Elmhurst shot 38.9 percent (7-of-18) from beyond the arc. The Bluejays dominated inside, outscoring the Spartans 64-24 and outrebounding Manchester 51-30.
Five Bluejays reached double figures in scoring.
Dominic Genco came off the bench to finish with a team-high double-double, scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds. Genco added game-highs in steals (five) and assists (five).
Wesley Hooker added 17 points and 10 rebounds to record a double-double.
Jake Rhode finished with 13 points and four assists while
Jay Militello totaled 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Jonathan Zapinski added 10 points for Elmhurst.
Manchester finished the game shooting 39.0 percent (23-of-59), including 34.5 percent (10-of-29) from beyond the arc. Brandon Christlieb led the Spartans with 22 points while Bryant Smith chipped in with 18. Ian Snelling came off the bench to total 17 points and six rebounds.
Elmhurst hosts Lake Forest College on December 29.
