GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Elmhurst University men's basketball team suffered its first loss of the 2021-22 season after falling 75-57 at Calvin College.

Elmhurst(6-1), ranked seventh in the latest D3hoops.com poll, was even with Calvin (5-2) after the first five minutes of play, but Calvin rattled off a 14-0 run over the next five minutes to open up a 21-7 lead and take control of the contest. The Knights built a 17-point cushion (51-34) at the half. Elmhurst struggled with its shooting in the first half, hitting just 34.2 percent (13-of-38) from the field while Calvin connected on 63.3 percent of its shots (19-of-30), including 56.3 percent (9-of-16) from 3-point distance.

Elmhurst came no closer than 15 points in the second half as Calvin led by as many as 25 points before coming away with the 18-point victory. Elmhurst's shooting woes continued in the second half as the Bluejays hit only 7-of-27 attempts (25.9 percent), including just 1-of-11 (9.1 percent) from downtown.

Elmhurst finished the contest shooting 30.8 percent (20-of-65) from the field and 20.0 percent (5-of-25) from beyond the arc.
Lavon Thomas led the Bluejays with 16 points and seven rebounds while
Jake Rhode added 13 points and four assists.
Ocean Johnson scored seven and
Dominic Genco added six for the Bluejays.

Calvin shot 47.3 percent (26-of-65) from the field, including 38.5 percent (10-of-26) from 3-point range. Thad Shymanski and Luke Morrison did the heavy lifting for the Knights, scoring 22 points apiece in the win. Shymanski shot 10-of-13 from the floor while Morrison hit on 6-of-13 attempts, including four 3-pointers. Marcus Bult added 11 points and seven rebounds for the Knights.
