DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Elmhurst University women's basketball team dropped its first contest of the season to Loras College 91-62.
 
The Bluejays led the Duhawks at half 37-34, however Loras took control offensively in the third quarter outscoring Elmhurst 34-7 on route to the 29-point victory.
 
 The Duhawks (1-0) finished with four players in double digits.  Sami Martin led with 13 points and five rebounds. Madison Fleckenstein followed close behind with 11 points and four rebounds. Cierra Bachmann and Madison Haslow each had 10 points with two and four rebounds, respectively.
 
Elmhurst (0-1) was led by 
Katie Matrise with 18 points.  
Payton Schmidt chipped in 13 points and 
Morgan Collar contributed 10 points and nine rebounds. Katelyn Matthews added nine points for the Bluejays.
 
Elmhurst shot 41.5 percent (22-of-53) from the floor, including 31.6 percent (6-of-19) from downtown. The Duhawks hit 44.6 percent of their shots (33-of-74) but just 28.1 percent (9-of-32) from beyond the arc. Loras earned 16 points from the foul line off of 24 attempts, while Elmhurst shot 12-of-28 (.429) from the line. Turnovers plagued the Bluejays as Elmhurst committed 28 points leading to 31 points for Loras.
 
The Bluejays travel to Aurora University for their next contest on Wednesday, November 10.
