Bluejays Down Dominican For First Victory

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University women's basketball team earned its first win of the season by defeating Dominican University 72-60 in River Forest.  

The Bluejays (1-6) trailed for over 25 minutes, but outscored the Stars 25-6 in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.   
Elmhurst trailed by 12 (53-41) with two minutes left in the third quarter and were down by seven entering the fourth quarter. The Bluejays opened the fourth on a 9-0 run to move in front with seven minutes remaining. After Dominican (1-4) pulled even at 56-all, the Bluejays used an 8-4 to take a 64-60 lead with just over two minutes left. The Bluejays scored the game's final eight points to pull away for the 12-point win.
 
The Bluejays shot 40.7 percent (24-of-59) from the floor but finished 0-for-8 from downtown. The Bluejays were solid from the foul line, hitting 24-of-30 free throws (80.0 percent). Elmhurst also dominated the game on the glass, outrebounding Dominican 52-28.  

Elmhurst had three players score 13 points apiece.  Marissa Mussatto completed the double-double with 12 boards in addition to her 13 points. Taylor Harazin scored 13 and added four rebounds, while teammate Morgan Collar also posted a double-double of 11 rebounds and 13 points. Kate Matthews and Cate Boling each chipped in nine points in the win.  
 
Dominican shot 35.2 percent (25-of-71) from the floor in the loss, including 28.6 percent (8-of-28) from downtown. The Stars struggled from the foul line, hitting just 2-of-11 attempts (18.2 percent).

Dominican's (1-4) Alisha Markley scored a game high 15 points, while teammate Stephenee Huggans followed close behind with 14 of her own.  Mackenzie Coleman also reached double figures in scoring with 10 points and three rebounds.  
 
The Bluejays open up CCIW play on Saturday, December 4 when they host the Wheaton College Thunder at 2:00 p.m.
