CHICAGO, Ill. – The Elmhurst University women's basketball team dropped its second matchup in the North Park Tournament falling to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 51-87.
The Bluejays (0-6) only lead over the Fightin' Engineers (1-2) was by one with 6:58 left in the first quarter after two good free throws by
Marissa Mussatto.
At halftime, Elmhurst trailed 40-27, but Rose-Hulman broke the game open in the third, scoring 24 points to Elmhurst's nine to increase its lead to 28 heading into the final 10 minutes of play.
The Fightin' Engineers outshot the Bluejays from the field 55.4 percent (36-of-65) to 32.7 percent (17-of-52).
Elmhurst struggled to maintain control of the ball resulting in 21 turnovers and allowing Rose-Hulman to score 27 of its 87 points as a result.
The Bluejays were led by
Taylor Harazin who posted 13 points and four rebounds, while
Ella Riley came off the bench to add eight points, six of which were off of three-pointers. Both
Katie Matrise and
Kate Matthews had seven points apiece.
The Fightin' Engineers had three players in double-figures. Leading the way was Jordan Barlow with 21 points and eight rebounds. Mira Randolph chipped in 16 points and Rose Burnham added 13 points and six rebounds in the win.
Elmhurst heads to River Forest to take on the Stars of Dominican University on Saturday, November 27.
