De PERE, Wis. – Four Bluejays reached double figures in scoring to lead the 10th-ranked Elmhurst University men's basketball team to a 70-55 road win over St. Norbert College.
Elmhurst (4-0) scored the first six points of the contest before St. Norbert (2-1) responded with a 10-3 run to move in front 10-9.
Jake Rhode hit a layup with 15 minutes in the first to put the Bluejays back in front 11-10. Elmhurst would not trail for the remainder of the contest.
Leading by three with 10:20 left in the first half, the Bluejays ripped off a 10-0 run to open up a 13-point lead with 6:37 left in the half. Elmhurst led by an many as 18 points and carried a 43-26 lead into halftime.
The Bluejays pushed their lead up 20 early in the second half before St. Norbert cut the deficit down to 12 points with 10:30 remaining. Elmhurst responded with a 7-0 run to bring its lead back to 19 points with 6:45 left before coasting to the 70-55 victory.
Elmhurst shot 42.6 percent (26-of-61) from the floor, including 40.0 percent (10-of-25) from 3-point range. The Bluejays held a 41-35 edge in rebounding as well.
Ocean Johnson led Elmhurst with a game-high 16 points, shooting 6-of-10 from the floor, including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc.
Jay Militello added 15 points, shooting 7-of-13 on the night.
Jake Rhode flirted with a triple-double, finishing the contest with 13 points and a team-best nine rebounds and eight assists.
Dominic Genco added 12 points and four rebounds while Byce Drews came off the bench to total nine points.
St. Norbert shot just 38.2 percent (21-of-55) from the floor, including 35.0 percent (7-of-20) from downtown. Nick Smoldt came off the bench to lead the Green Knights in scoring with nine. Jack Pettit and Ben Jelacic added eight points apiece for St. Norbert.
Elmhurst hosts Alma College on Tuesday, November 23.
