Football Team Falls at North Park

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Elmhurst University suffered a 45-3 loss on the road at North Park University.
 
North Park (2-5/2-4 CCIW) scored the game's first 32 points to leave Elmhurst (1-6/1-5 CCIW) playing catchup early.
 
North Park strung together a 12-play drive on its opening possession, but the Bluejays forced the Vikings to settle for a 29-yard Michael Messersmith field goal.
 
The Vikings' Juan Nieves intercepted a Noah Henkel pass and returned it 47-yards to put North Park up 10-0. Marcel Love added a 10-yard run early in the second quarter to extend North Park's lead to 18-0. The Vikings tacked on two more touchdowns to carry a 32-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.

North Park tried an onside kick to start the second half. Elmhurst recovered and the Bluejays took advantage of the short field to score their first points of the contest. Elmhurst marched down to the 12-yard line before the drive stalled, settling for a 29-yard field goal from Sandro Quintanilla.
 
Elmhurst had an impressive 15-play drive that ate up over six minutes of clock, but the drive stalled out at the Vikings' 16-yard line. North Park added a pair of second half touchdowns to make the final score 45-3.
 
Elmhurst totaled 181 yards of offense on the day, rushing for 70 and passing for 111. North Park tallied 489 yards, running for 119 and passing for 370.
 
Winston Brown carried 10 times for 34 yards to lead Elmhurst on the ground. Nick Eilers completed 10-of-23 passes for 64 yards while Noah Henkel completed 7-of-15 for 47 yards. Gabe Holtke was the top receiver for the Bluejays, catching 10 passes for 51 yards.
 
Matt Eck led North Park, complete 25-of-42 attempts for 359 yards and two touchdowns. Caleb Jones caugh four passes for 122 yards. Mike Oray caught seven balls for 89 yards and a touchdown.
 
Bryce Gable led Elmhurst's defense with 10 tackles. Robert Hanrahan and Tanner King finished with eight stops apiece.
 
Elmhurst hosts Wheaton College next Saturday, October 30.
