Bluejays Stopped By Titans

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Elmhurst University football team suffered a 52-3 loss on the road at Illinois Wesleyan University.
 
Elmhurst fell to 0-4 on the year with the loss while the Titans scored their first victory of the season, improving to 1-3.
 
IWU wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Seth Albin returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown to give the Titans a 7-0 lead less than 20 seconds into the contest. A Hamid Bullie 19-yard touchdown run gave IWU a 14-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
 
Elmhurst put together an impressive drive, moving 67 yards in 15 plays and eating up nearly 6:30 of clock in the process. The drive stalled inside the 10-yard line and Elmhurst settled for a 24-yard field goal from Sandro Quintanilla.
 
The Titans pulled away in the middle quarters, scoring 17 points in the second to take a 31-3 into halftime. The Titans added three touchdowns in the third quarter to pull away for the 52-3 victory.
 
Illinois Wesleyan totaled 422 yards of offense while limiting the Bluejays to just 104. Elmhurst finished the game with just seven net rushing yards after the Titans recorded eight sacks on the day.
 
Zach Norman led the Bluejays on the ground, rushing six times for 47 yards. Isaiah Presley added 29 yards on nine carries. Noah Henkel (7-of-20 for 60) and Nick Eilers (5-of-8 for 37) combined to pass for 97 yards for Elmhurst.
 
Illinois Wesleyan did its damage on the ground, compiling 190 yards and five touchdowns from the running game. Albin carried five times or 94 yards, including a 67-yard touchdown run. Bullie logged 12 carries for 85  yards and two scores.
 
Bryce Gable led the Bluejays' defense for the fourth straight game, finishing with nine sacks, including a tackle for loss. Gabe Boyd added eight stops, including seven solo. Tanner King and Tyler Jolly each recorded a sack. King also forced and recovered a fumble for the Bluejays.
 
Elmhurst hosts Millikin University next Saturday, October 9.
