Bluejays Down North Central 65-56

The Elmhurst women's basketball team secured their third conference win by upsetting North Central College 65-56 on the road.

The Bluejays (8-15/3-10 CCIW) came out hot outrebounding the Cardinals (9-12/5-7 CCIW) 18-11 while holding them to only six points in the first quarter (14-6). North Central started to make its way back in the second quarter, outscoring Elmhurst 18-13. At halftime the Bluejays led the Cardinals 27-24.

In the third quarter, North Central came back and took its second lead of the game with 10 seconds left. Courtney O'Donnell answered with a last second layup to tie the game 43-43 headed into the fourth quarter. Elmhurst held North central to shooting just 8.3 percent (1-of-12) from the field in the fourth quarter, capturing the conference win on the road 65-56.

The Bluejays were led by a pair of double-doubles from O'Donnell and Becca Gerke. O'Donnell recorded 18 points and 10 rebounds while Gerke finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds on the night. Marissa Urso added 11 points and four rebounds. Kelly Weyhrich recorded nine points and four rebounds to help her squad in the victory. Elmhurst shot 41 percent (25-of-61) from the field, 25 percent (4-of-16) from the three-point line, and 61.1 percent (11-of-18) from the free throw line. 

The Cardinals were led by Allison Pearson's 19 points and four rebounds. Pearson knocked down 9 of her 10 free throws. She was assisted by Maya Walls' 11 points and four rebounds. Haydn Braun came off the bench to score seven points and collecting six boards.North Central shot 27.5 percent (14-of-51) from the field, 21.4 percent (6-of-28) from the three-point line, and 73.3 percent (22-of-33) from the foul line. 

The Bluejays will host Carroll University at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday (February 12, 2020).
