ELMHURST ILL. – The Elmhurst women's basketball squad fell short in their second matchup of the season to Wheaton College 63-60.
Elmhurst (7-13/2-9 CCIW) came out strong shooting 57.1 percent from the field and led Wheaton (15-5/8-3 CCIW) 19-12 at the end of the first quarter. With about two minutes left in the second quarter, the Thunder took their first lead of the game. At the end of the first half the Bluejays trailed the Thunder 32-30.
In the third quarter, Wheaton started to pull away, going on a 13-0 run to take a 14-point lead over the Bluejays (48-34). The Bluejays found themselves trailing the Thunder 51-40 headed into the final quarter. Elmhurst came out strong in the fourth, using a 10-0 run to pull to within one point with six minutes left in the game. After the Bluejays tied the game up at 54-54, the Thunder responded by going on a 6-0 run and led by seven points with just under three minutes left. The Bluejays found themselves down three points with seven seconds left in the game.
Sophia Lathe put up a last second three-pointer that rimmed out, giving Wheaton their eighth conference win of the season.

Becca Gerke's 13 points and eight rebounds.
Courtney O'Donnell also added 13 points while recording four rebounds on the day.
Marissa Urso helped her squad by shooting 4-of-9 from the field while recording 10 points and three rebounds. Elmhurst shot 37.9 percent (25-of-66) from the field, 50 percent (6-of-12) from three-point range, and was a perfect 4-of-4 from the foul line.
The Thunder were led by Hannah Frazier's 25 points and five rebounds. Kirsten Madsen helped lead her squad by scoring 12 points. Jill Berg added seven points and eight rebounds for the Thunder. Wheaton shot 39.6 percent (21-of-53), 43.8 percent (7-of-16) from the three-point line, and 70 percent (14-of-20) from the free throw line.
The Bluejays will return to action when they travel to Illinois Wesleyan University on Wednesday (February 5, 2020) at 7:00 P.M.
