COUNTRYSIDE, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's tennis team slipped to 1-1 on the season after falling to Principia College 7-2 at Score Tennis.
Principia (2-0) won two of the three doubles contests and five of the six singles matches en route to the win.
In doubles play, Elmhurst's
Shawn Sabaricos and
Grant O'Connell fell to Wyatt Dale and Greg Sovie 8-2 at No. 1. The Bluejays' duo of
Florin Stan and Brandon Fullmer fell 8-1 at No. 2 doubles to Daniel Gomez and Juan Segovia. Elmhurst scored its only doubles' point at No.3 when
Reid Bertsche and
Tavious Imperial defeated William Johnson and Elliott Matthiesen 8-6.
In singles action Gomez defeated Sabaricos 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 while Dale upended O'Connell 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2. Sovie stopped Stan 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 while Segovia downed Fullmer 7-5, 6-1 at No. 4. Bertsche finished the day undefeated for the Bluejays, scoring Elmhurst's only singles' point with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Johnson at No. 5. Matthieson scored a 6-1, 6-0 win over Elmhurst's
Tom Allen at No. 6 singles.
Elmhurst travels to Iowa to take Cornell College and Simpson College next Saturday, February 8.
