Bluejays Fall Short on the Road

ROCK ISLAND, Ill.- The Elmhurst women's basketball squad dropped to 6-7 overall after falling in a CCIW matchup to Augustana 63-58 in Rock Island, Ill.

In the first quarter Elmhurst (6-7/1-3 CCIW) used a 7-0 run with three minutes left to take a 17-10 lead. Augustana (8-6/3-2 CCIW) went on their own 7-0 run to tie the game 17-17 with five minutes remaining in the second quarter. At the end of the first half the Bluejays held a slight one-point lead 28-27.

It was a tight quarter until Augustana built a seven-point lead with three minutes left in the third quarter. The Bluejays cut the Vikings' lead down to four points headed into the fourth quarter. The lead continued to change throughout the fourth quarter until the Vikings made a three-point shot to take a two-point lead with 1:30 left to play. Unfortunately, the Bluejays could not get their final shots to fall and Augustana earned the home victory 63-58.

The Bluejays were led by Kween Jean's double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds. Kelly Weyhrich's 14 points and four rebounds also helped carry the Bluejays. Sophia Lathe came off the bench to knock down 2-of-7 three-point attempts and totaled eight rebounds on the night. Elmhurst shot 39.7 percent (23-of-58) from the field and 25 percent (6-of-24) from beyond the arc.

The Vikings were led by Alexis Jones' double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. Mia Lambert added 14 points and one rebound for Augustana. Daina Riser came off the bench to record eight pints and four rebounds on the night. Augustana shot 38.7 percent (24-of-62) from the field and 26.7 percent (4-of-15) from beyond the arc.

The Bluejays will return to action on Saturday (January 11, 2020) when they host North Park at 2:00 P.M.
