ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's tennis team opened its 2020 season by defeating Wartburg College 7-2 at Courts Plus.
Elmhurst (1-0) won two of the three doubles matches before taking five of the six singles contests.
In doubles play, Wartburg's Lucas Huffman and Nate Kolz defeated Elmhusrt's duo of
Shawn Sabaricos and
Florin Stan 8-3 at No.1 Elmhurst scored wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Grant O'Connell and Brandon Fullmer defeated Grant Kincaid and Ben Mason 8-6 at No. 2 while
Tavious Imperial and
Reid Bertsche scored an 8-4 win over Jared Hefel and Jack Veber at No. 3.
In singles action, Sabaricos toppled Huffman 6-3, 7-5 at No. 1 while O'Connell followed with a three-set victory (6-3, 1-6, 10-8) over Kolz at No. 2. Stan defeated Kincaid 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 while Fullmer scored a 6-2, 7-5 win over Mason at No. 4. Bertsche picked up a win at No. 5, dispatching Hefel 6-4, 6-2. Zach Heyerhoff scored Wartburg's only singles point, toppling Imperial in three sets (7-5, 5-7, 10-5) at No. 6.
