ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Elmhurst men's basketball team had its 11-game winning streak snapped as Pierson Wofford hit a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer to give Augustana College a 94-93 win over the Bluejays.
 
Elmhurst, ranked fourth in the latest D3hoops.com poll, slipped to 17-2 overall and 8-2 in the CCIW with the loss. Augustana improved to 13-6 overall and  7-3 in league play with the victory.
 
Elmhurst struggled out of the gate as Augustana jumped out to a 39-25 lead after the game's first 15 minutes. The Bluejays surged back over the final 4:30 of the opening half, finishing  on a 16-2 run to pull even at 41-41 after Jake Rhode hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to end the first half.
 
Augustana moved back in front at 50-46 at the start of the second half, but the Bluejays responded with a 13-1 run to open up a 59-51 lead with 12 minutes left to play. The Bluejays extended their lead to 10 points (79-69) with six minutes remaining and led 86-78 with three minutes remaining before Augustana fought its way back into the contest. Augustana scored the next seven points to pull to within one point at 86-85, but the Bluejays pushed their lead back up to five points with 26 seconds remaining.
 
Wofford hit a layup to bring the Vikings to within three points with 12 seconds left. The Bluejays turned the ball over on the inbounds play and were whistled for a foul. The Vikings hit both free throws with 10 seconds left to close to within a point at 92-91. The Bluejays split two free throws with six seconds left to take a 93-91 lead, but Wofford hit a long-range three pointer from the top of the key as the horn sounded to lift the Vikings past Elmhurst 94-93.
 
Elmhurst finished the game shooting 56.1 percent (32-of-57) from the floor, including 7-of-19 from three-point range. The Vikings shot 53.6 percent (30-of-56) from the field, including 48 percent (12-of-25) from downtown. The two teams were whistled for a combined 47 fouls. Elmhurst finished 22-of-24 from the foul line while Augustana hit 22-of-33 attempts.
 
Derek Dotlich led Elmhurst in the loss with 24 points and six rebounds. Rhode added 21 points and five assists while Jay Militello scored 14 points and Lavon Thomas finished with 12 points and five assists. Nick Perry added eight points while Dominic Genco scored six for Elmhurst.
 
Micah Martin led Augustana in the victory with 27 points and 11 rebounds. Austin Elledge added 17 points while Wofford finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Lucas Simon added 10 points for the Vikings.
 
Elmhurst will look to rebound from the loss on Saturday, February 1, when the Bluejays host Wheaton College at 4:00 p.m.
