Bluejays Capture Second Conference Win

DECATUR, Ill.- The Elmhurst women's basketball squad defeated Millikin University 64-53 on the road to score its second CCIW win of the season. 

The Bluejays (7-10/2-6 CCIW) started off strong and found themselves leading at the end of the first quarter 19-15. Elmhurst added to their lead and held Millikin (11-6/4-4 CCIW) to only eight points in the second quarter. The Bluejays led 34-23 headed into the locker room at halftime.

Late in the third quarter, Elmhurst extend its lead to 14 points (50-36). Millikin rallied back in the fourth quarter to find themselves down by only five points with just over two minutes left in the game. It was not enough as the Bluejays pulled away for their second conference win of the season at 64-53.

The Bluejays were led by Kween Jean and Becca Gerke. Jean finished with 19 points and seven rebounds shooting 7-of-11 from the field and making five of her seven free throw attempts. Gerke shot 5-of-8 from the field and made all four of her free throw attempts. Marissa Urso added seven points and five rebounds on the night. Elmhurst shot 37.9 percent (22-of-58) from the field, 15.4 percent (2-of-13) from the three-point line, and 69.2 percent (18-of-26) from the foul line.

The Big Blue were led by Jordan Hildebrand's 10 points and nine rebounds on the night. Bailey Coffman added 10 points and four rebounds of her own. Aubrey Staton helped  her team by recording seven points and five rebounds. Millikin shot 33.3 percent (18-of-54) from the field, 20 percent (4-of-20) from beyond the arc, and 59.1 percent (13-of-22) from the foul line.

The Bluejays will return to action on Saturday (January 25, 2020) when they travel to play North Park at 2:00 P.M.
