Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Bluejays Top Nationally-Ranked Wheaton 4-2

The Elmhurst men's soccer squad defeated nationally-ranked Wheaton College 4-2 in the Bluejays'  first conference game of the season.
 
The Basics:
  • Final Score: Elmhurst 4, Wheaton 2
  • Location: Langhorst Field
  • Records: Elmhurst (7-3-1), Wheaton (6-3-1)
 
The Details:
  • In the 20th minute of the match James Serrano scored off a cross from Noah Backhaus to give the Bluejays' an early lead.
  • Keegan Thompson started his day out with a goal in the 28th minute on a pass from Backhaus, giving him his second assist in the match.
  • Just before halftime, Backhaus netted a penalty shot opportunity to give the Bluejays' a 3-0 lead.
  • Only three minutes into the second half Michael Groza put the Thunder on the scoreboard when he scored on a pass from AJ Moyes.
  • Later in the 61st minute of the match Backhaus once again found Thompson who netted his second goal of the match, adding to the Bluejays' lead to make the score 4-1.
  • Will Woodfin scored an unassisted goal in the 85th minute of the match for Wheaton, but it marked the last of the scoring as Elmhurst closed out the game  on top 4-2.
  • Wheaton's Drew Cammarano totaled one save, while Elmhurst's Donnie Kvien had five saves on the day.
