INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Elmhurst men's tennis team moved to 5-7 on the season after splitting a pair of contests. Elmhurst defeated Simpson 5-4 before falling to University of Northwestern 8-1.
ELMHURST 5, SIMPSON 4 - Elmhurst picked up its fifth win of the season by edging Simpson 5-4.
The Bluejays won a pair of doubles matches and three singles contests in the victory.
Elmhurst's doubles team of
Shawn Sabaricos and
Chris Wallace defeated Zach Nelson and Reade Reiter 8-4 at No. 1.
Grant O'Connell and
Lance Maharry combined to defeat Brett Dewerff and Matt Turnley 8-6 at No. 2.
Elmhurst scored singles wins at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 singles. Sabaricos toppled Nelson 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 while Maharry used three sets (6-4, 5-7, 10-2) to defeat Dewerff at No. 3. Wallaced picked up the Bluejays' final singles win, dispatching Turnley 6-4, 7-6 at No.4.
NORTHWESTERN 8, ELMHURST 1 - Northwestern moved to 9-7 on the season after defeating Elmhurst 8-1.
Elmhurst scored its only point at No. 2 singles when O'Connell defeated Davis Pfaff 6-4, 0-6, 10-8.
Elmhurst hosts Wheaton on Tuesday, April 16.
