AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Elmhurst baseball team closed out its Florida road trip to the RussMatt Tournament with a 6-5 win over #22 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Elmhurst improved to 5-7 on the season with the victory.
Whitewater (5-5) scored three runs in the first inning but Elmhurst answered back with the next six runs. A
Drew Raspolich single and a Whitewater error plated two runs for the Bluejays in the bottom of the second.
Elmhurst cashed in on another Warhawk error in the fourth, scoring a run on
Tyler Kledzik's RBI single. The Bluejays burned Whitewater for a third time on an error in the sixth. Elmhurst loaded the bases with two outs,
Trey Compton's ground ball was thrown away, allowing all three runs to score, extending the Bluejays' lead to 6-3.
Whitewater pushed home two runs in the seventh to pull to within a run. The Warhawks loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth but
Alex Kielion induced Alex Dodd to fly out to end the game.
Karson Thomas and Raspolich recorded two hits apiece to lead Elmhurst's offense.
Noah Jordan earned the win for Elmhurst, working seven innings and allowing eight hits and five runs. He walked one and struck out three.
Elmhurst hosts Carthage College on Saturday, March 30.
