BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Three Bluejays reached double figures in scoring but it wasn't enough as the Elmhurst women's basketball team fell 83-62 at Illinois Wesleyan University.
Elmhurst (9-14/5-9 CCIW) struggled in the opening half as Illinois Wesleyan (19-4/12-2 CCIW) opened up an 18-point lead at the half. The game as tied at 14-14 just over five minutes into the first quarter but the Titans outscored Elmhurst 11-1 over the final five minutes to open up a 25-15 lead after 10 minutes. The Titans extended their lead to as many as 19 points in the second quarter before carrying a 49-31 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Titans led by as many as 26 points in the second half and Elmhurst came no closer than 18 points as IWU coasted to the 83-62 win.
Elmhurst finished the game shooting 38.2 percent (21-of-55) from the floor, including 40.0 percent (6-of-15) from beyond the arc.
Lisa Logan and
Marissa Urso scored 11 points apiece to pace the Bluejays in the loss.
Kelly Weyhrich added 10 points while
Kellee Clay scored eight.
IWU dominated the game inside, outrebounding Elmhurst 46-27 and outscoring the Bluejays 42-20 in the paint. The Titans shot 50.8 percent (33-of-65) from the floor. Maddie Merritt led the Titans with 20 points and eight rebounds. Sydney Shanks added 19 while Nina Anderson scored 14.
Elmhurst plays at North Park University on February 13.
