ELMHURST, Ill.- The Elmhurst women's basketball squad defeated the Beloit Buccaneers 73-42 to pick up a non-conference win at home.
In the first five minutes of the game, Elmhurst (5-6) went on a 13-0 run to take an early lead over Beloit (2-7). At the end of the first quarter the Bluejays were up 19-6. The Buccaneers started to battle back in the second quarter by making three three-pointers in the last five minutes of the first half. Elmhurst still held an eight-point lead headed into the second half at 31-23.
The Bluejays opened things up in the third quarter, shooting 50 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from beyond the arc while the Buccaneers shot just 12.5 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point range. Elmhurst built a 23-point lead headed into the final quarter. The Bluejays held a 30-point lead for the majority of the fourth quarter, before closing out Beloit 73-42.

Marissa Urso's 15 points and six rebounds.
Kween Jean and
Lauren Goff added 11 points each while Goff added four rebounds and Jean totaled five. Elmhurst shot 39.4 percent (28-of-71) and 24.1 percent (7-of-29) on the day. The Bluejays also shot 58.8 percent (10-of-17) from the foul line while their bench outscored the Buccaneers' 25-9.
The Buccaneers were led by Dani Strejcs' 10 points and three rebounds. She was assisted by Kelly Mcleans' eight points and five rebounds. Christy Melton also helped the Buccaneers by recording nine rebounds and six points on the day. Beloit shot 34 percent (17-of-50) from the field and 41.7 percent (5-of-12) from beyond the arc.
The Bluejays will return to action on January 4, 2020 when they travel to play Carroll University in a CCIW matchup at 2:00 P.M.
