ELMHURST, Ill.- The Elmhurst women's basketball squad edged Coe College 61-53 to pick up their fourth win on the season.
Elmhurst (4-6) came out sluggish in the first quarter, allowing the Kohawks (5-4) to go on a 10-point run that ended with three minutes left in the first quarter. Coe led the Bluejays 16-7 at the end of the first quarter.
Sophia Lathe shot 3-of-4 from beyond the ark in the second quarter to help cut the Kohawk lead down to three points at the end of the first half (29-26).
After the Bluejays tied the game up in the start of the third quarter, they found themselves leading 43-41 headed into the start of the fourth quarter. Elmhurst outscored Coe 17-12 in the third quarter. After both teams battled in the first half of the fourth quarter the Bluejays went up by five with two minutes left. The Kohawks were forced to start fouling and the Bluejays knocked down their last-minute free throws to win at home (61-53).

Kween Jean's 18 points and six rebounds.
Marissa Urso helped her squad by shooting 50 percent from beyond the arc, totaling 12 points and 6 rebounds. Lathe also shot 50 percent from the 3-point line to help the Bluejays win. Elmhurst shot 35.7 percent from beyond the arc and shot 68.8 percent from behind the free throw line.
The Kohawks were led by Jamie Feldt's 13 points and five rebounds. Jackie Feldt went 4-of-4 from the free throw line, recording 10 points and three rebounds on the night. Finally, Taylor Huber helped in the paint with seven rebounds and six points. The Kohawks shot 77.8 percent from the free throw line and shot 38.2 percent from the field.
The Bluejays will return to action on Sunday (December 29, 2019) when they host Beloit College in a non-conference game at 2:00 P.M.
