Whitewater, Wis.- The Elmhurst women's basketball squad dropped its non-conference matchup to University of Wisconsin Whitewater 111-61.
The Warhawks (5-1) came out strong going on a 14-0 run to start off the first quarter. The Bluejays (3-3) struggled to keep with Whitewater's offense and found themselves trailing 30-7 at the end of the first quarter. Whitewater went on a 11-0 run with three minutes left in the half to extend their lead to 57-22 at the end of the first half.
Whitewater went on another run midway through the third quarter to extend its lead to 81-30 headed into the fourth quarter. The Bluejays matched the Warhawks in the fourth quarter as both teams went 11-20 from the field. The Bluejays edged the Warhawks 12-7 in rebounds and went 9-of-11 from the free throw line in the fourth.
Courtney O'Donnell earned herself a double-double on the night with 22 points and 12 rebounds. She also shot 60 percent from the field and went 4-of-5 from the free throw line.
Kween Jean who shot 5-of-10 from the field and recorded 12 points on the night. Elmhurst posted a 76.5 percentage from the free throw line and shot 41.1 percent from the field.
The Warhawks were led by Aleah Grundahl shooting 6-of-7 from the field, recording 17 points and five rebounds. Emily Schumacher's 15 points and Yssa Domingo's 14 points added to the Whitewater victory. The Warhawks outrebounded the Bluejays 41-30 while shooting 54.5 percent from the field and 52.4 percent from beyond the arc.
The Bluejays will look to bounce back in their first conference game when they host Carthage College on Wednesday (December 4, 2019) at 7:00 P.M.
