Bluejays Top Olivet 55-54

Elmhurst, Ill.- Kween Jean drove to the basket and scored a layup with two seconds remaining to give the Elmhurst women's basketball team a 55-54 win over Olivet College at the North Park University Tournament. The win was the Bluejays' second consecutive victory.

The Bluejays (2-2) made 5-of-6 free throws to help give them the 16-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the beginning of the second quarter Olivet (1-2) went on a 17-0 run that gave the Comets a 10-point lead at halftime 32-22.

After a sluggish second quarter the Bluejays started to fight back but trailed 40-32 to the Comets at the end of the third quarter. Elmhurst came out strong in the fourth quarter and went on a 6-0 run to eventually tie the game up 43-43 with just under six minutes remaining. Both teams battled hard and found themselves in a tied game 50-50 with 45 seconds left. The Bluejays went up 53-51 with 22 seconds left, but the Comets answered back as Hannah Brown hit a fade-away 3-point jumper to give Olivet a one-point lead (54-53) with eight seconds remaining. After an Elmhurst timeout, Jean collected the inbound pass, drove hard to the right side of the basket, and scored a layup with two seconds left to capture the Bluejay victory.

The Bluejays were led by Courtney O'Donnell's 15 points and six rebounds. Anna Hill added 12 points while Jean finished with 11 rebounds and eight points. Becca Gerke helped by going 4-of-5 from the floor, finishing with nine points and three rebounds. Elmhurst posted a 35.3 percentage from the floor and a 68.2 percentage from the free throw line.

The Comets were led by DeeDee Post and Tammy Lee who both finished with double-doubles. Post recorded 21 points and 11 rebounds while Lee totaled 10 points and 10 rebounds. Olivet shot 28.4 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free throw line.

The Bluejays will look to continue their winning streak tomorrow when they face Buena Vista University in North Park's tournament at 1:00 P.M.
