Bluejays Edge St. Mary's 56-52

Elmhurst, Ill.- Lauren Goff made a layup with ten seconds left in the game, taking down St. Mary's College (Ind.) 56-52 and giving the Bluejays their first win of the season in the process.

In a tight first quarter, Elmhurst (1-2) was able to take a 12-9 lead into the start of the second quarter. Anna Hill and Zori Milller each had three points in the second quarter to lead the Bluejays. In a back-and-forth first half, St. Mary's (2-3) had a short 22-20 lead headed into the locker room.

The Bluejays went on a 9-0 towards the end of the third quarter to take the lead at 33-30. Hill and Courtney O'Donnell led Elmhurst in extending their lead to 40-32 to end the third quarter. St. Mary's chipped away at the Bluejay lead and made it 51-50 with 40 seconds left in the game.

The Bluejays went down by one point when Jade Mosier finished a layup with 14 seconds left giving the Belles' a 51-50 lead. After a Bluejay timeout, Lauren Goff received an inbound pass and scored a layup with ten seconds left to take the one-point lead. Elmhurst was able to hold off the Belles and make a couple of last-second free throws to secure its first win of the season on the road.

The Bluejays were led by Hill's 12 points and Miller's 11 points off the bench. O'Donnell recorded a double-double, finishing with 10 points and 13 total rebounds. Elmhurst shot 71.4 percent from the free throw line and posted a 37.3 field goal percentage.

The Belles were led by Maddie Rzepka's 17 points and seven rebounds. Mosier added nine points and 10 rebounds, and Olivia Lather tallied seven points and four rebounds. St. Mary's hit 55.6 percent from the free throw line and posted a 30.4 field goal percentage.

The Bluejays return to action this Friday when they travel to compete in North Park's tournament. Elmhurst will play against Olivet on Friday November 22, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. and will face Buena Vista University on Saturday November 23, 2019 at 1:00 p.m.
