DECATUR, Ill. – The Elmhurst wrestling team dropped a 29-18 dual meet to Millikin University to open it's 2019-20 season.
 
Elmhurst won four matches in the dual. Millikin jumped out a 6-0 lead after Zac Blasioli pinned Elmhurst's Justin Hames at 125 pounds in 1:17. The Bluejays cut the lead in half after Josh Lawson defeated Jordan Carson 13-6 at 133 pounds. Millikin's Maxx Fritz scored a 12-2 major decision over Elmhurst's Andre Neal at 141 pounds to make the score 10-3 in favor of Millikin. The Bluejays cut the deficit to just a point after Jimmy McAuliffe pinned Tristan Birt in 2:18 at the 149 pound weight class. Elmhurst took its first lead of the dual at 157 pounds when Christian Komitas scored a late pin (6:53) over Peter McCusker, giving Elmhurst a 15-10 lead.
 
Millikin answered back by winning the next two matches. Bradan Birth pinned Elmhurst's Sebastian Zaragoza at 165 pounds and Jake Tisza followed with a 3-1 overtime win over Elmhurst' Nevin Brittain at 174 pounds. The two wins put the Big Blue up 19-15. Dominic Gallo brought the Bluejays back to within a point with a 10-7 decision over Taylor McGiffen at 184 pounds, but Logan Hagerbaumer pinned Elmhurst's Victor Vargas at 197 pounds. Even Betz followed with  14-2 major decision over Elmhurst's Karim Fuentes at 285 pounds.
