MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Elmhurst volleyball team closed out its regular season by splitting a pair of contests at the Wisconsin Lutheran College Invitational. The Bluejays dropped a five-set match to Concordia University (Wis.) before closing out the day with a sweep of Beloit College.
Elmhurst closed the regular season with a 10-21 overall record.Â
CONCORDIA 3, ELMHURST 2 -Â Elmhurst rallied from two sets down before falling in five sets 18-25, 17-25, 25-19, 25-20, 9-15.Â
Concordia jumped out to a 2-0 lead after cruising in the first two sets. With the third set even at 17-17, Elmhurst closed the set with an 8-2 run to force a fourth set. The fourth set score was even at 18-all before the Bluejays closed with a 7-2 run to force a decisive fifth set.Â
Concordia jumped out to an early lead in the fifth and never looked back as Elmhurst came no closer than a three-point deficit at 8-5 before falling 15-9.
Payton Froats led the Bluejays in the loss with 12 kills while
Ellie Burzlaff added 11.
Bailey Brouwer reached double figures in kills with 10.
Kayla Mast finished with nine kills and 14 digs.
Hannah Horn and
Emily Finkbeiner tallied 21 assists apiece for the Bluejays.
Valerie Thomas totaled a team-leading 17 digs in the loss.Â
Sophia Collins led Concordia with 15 kills while Megan Mayer finished with 10.Â
ELMHURST 3, BELOIT 0 - Elmhurst closed out its regular season with a 25-16, 25-21, 25-12 win over Beloit.Â
The Bluejays cruised to the opening set before finishing the second set with a 6-2 run to move in front two sets to none. Elmhurst opened the third on an 8-4 run and never looked back, coasting to the 25-12 win.
Froats and Burzlaff led Elmhurst with nine kills apiece.
Taylor Zurliene and Mast finished with kills apiece. Zurliene totaled a match-high 25 digs while Thomas finished with 13. Finkbeiner tallied 19 assists while Horn totaled 17 assists and 10 digs.Â
Elmhurst hosts Augustana College in the first round of the CCIW Tournament on Tuesday, November 5, at 7:00 p.m.Â
