ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst football team closed out its 2019 season by falling 58-0 to fourth-ranked Wheaton College on senior day at Langhorst Field.

Elmhurst (1-9, 1-8 CCIW) came away with five turnovers against the high-powered Wheaton offense, but turnovers and key penalties proved costly in the loss.

Wheaton (10-0, 9-0 CCIW) took the open kicking and drove 61 yards, jumping in front 7-0 after a seven-yard touchdown pass from Luke Anthony to Burt McJunkin. After the Bluejays were forced to punt, Elmhurst's defense came up with its first turnover of the game.
Bryce Gable sacked and stripped Anthony with the Bluejays recovering at the Wheaton 24-yard line. Elmhurst ran a reverse on their first play, with
Jake Tahaney pulling up behind the line of scrimmage and finding
Tanner King in the end zone, but the play was called back for holding. Elmhurst was forced to punt three plays later.

The Thunder mounted a 10-play, 83-yard scoring drive late in the first to extend their lead to 13-0. Wheaton made it 20-0 early in the third when Caden Sigler returned an interception 68 yards for a touchdown.

Wheaton took advantage of a short field to score touchdown drives of 55 and 49 yards to extend its cushion to 34-0 midway through the second quarter.

Elmhurst had a defensive touchdown nullified by a penalty late in the second quarter.
Sean Jay scooped up a Wheaton fumble and raced 65 yards to the end zone, but an illegal block brought the ball back to the Elmhurst side of the field and the Bluejays were forced to punt following a three-and-out. Wheaton added one last score before the half as Anthony hit Adam Terrini from seven yards out to put the Thunder up 41-0 at the half.

Wheaton started the second half with a 28-yard touchdown run from Stone Watson to up its lead to 48-0. The Thunder added a field goal and a touchdown in the fourth quarter to make the final score 58-0.

Elmhurst totaled 132 yards of offense in the loss, rushing for 59 yards and passing for 73. Wheaton finished with 491 total yards, rushing for 154 and passing for 337.
Treston Womack led Elmhurst on the ground with 13 carries for 51 yards.
Anthony Antrobus added 25 yards on 14 attempts.
Noah Henkel and
Jake Tahaney combined to finish 9-of-31 for 73 yards. Ben Fridirch hauled in five passes for 41 yards.

Watson led a balanced Thunder ground attack with 50 yards on six carries. Luke Anthony completed 16-of-20 passes for 246 yards and five touchdowns. Terini was the Thunder's top target, catching seven passes for 93 yards and a touchdown.

Stefan Postman led the Elmhurst defense with 10 tackles. Jay finished with nine tackles, including a tackle for loss and a fumble recovery. Gable finished with five tackles, including a pair of sacks and a forced fumble.
Lavor Little added six stops and sack.
Marco Huxhold and
Tristen James both recovered fumbled for the Bluejays. Postman and Nick Mario added interceptions for the Bluejays' defense.
The Bluejays honored the 12 senior members of the 2019 football team in a pregame ceremony.    Â
