Bluejays Fall to Aurora 80-63

Elmhurst, Ill.- The Elmhurst women's basketball team dropped its second game of the season, falling to Aurora University 80-63.

The Bluejays (0-1) trailed by 12 with only a minute and thirty seconds left in the first quarter, but cut the Aurora (1-0) lead to eight points going into the second quarter down 19-11. The Spartans went on an 8-0 run in the middle of the second quarter to extend their lead to 31-13. At the end of the half, the Bluejays went into the locker room trailing the Spartans 45-22.

Aurora kept their 24-point lead until two minutes and thirty seconds left the third quarter. The Bluejays began to chip away at the Spartans' lead by using a 10-0 run to make  it a 15-point game (63-48) headed into the fourth quarter.

The Bluejays closed to within 12 points at the midway mark of the fourth quarter, but could not keep up with the Spartans' 6-0 run in the final three minutes of the game.

The Bluejays were led by Courtney O'Donnell's 18 points and six rebounds. Becca Gerke finished with a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds while  Lauren Goff scored 10 points. Anna Hill and Jocelyn Jacob added nine points each on the night.

The Spartans were led by Julie Galauner's 22 points and eight rebounds, Karissa King's 19 points and nine rebounds, and Meija Rabi's 14 points and three rebounds.

Aurora shot 56 percent (25-of-45) from the field topping Elmhurst's' 29 percent (18-of-62). The Bluejays' bench outscored the Spartans' 18-16 on the day. The Bluejays connected on seven three pointers, but finished the contest shooting 33 percent (6-of-18) from downtown. Elmhurst committed 26 turnovers in the loss and Aurora totaled 25 on the night.

Elmhurst returns to action next Wednesday (November 20, 2019) when they travel to Saint Mary's College at 7:00 P.M.
