KENOSHA, Wis. – The Elmhurst volleyball team suffered its first CCIW loss of the season, falling 25-17, 25-23, 25-14 at fourth-ranked Carthage College.

Leading 11-8 in the first set, Carthage (19-1/3-0 CCIW) used a 5-0 run to open up a comfortable eight-point cushion at 16-8. Carthage led by as many as 12 points before putting the set away at 25-17.

Elmhurst (7-12/2-1 CCIW) jumped out to an early 12-10 lead in the second set, but Carthage responded with a 6-0 run to open up a 16-12 lead. The Bluejays bounced back with a 7-2 run to move in front at 19-18, but the Lady Reds scored the next six points to take a 24-19 lead. The Bluejays fought off four set points and pulled to within a point, but a kill from Shannon Kebisek gave Carthage the set at 25-23.

Carthage built a quick 4-1 lead in the third and never trailed. Elmhurst was within three point at 11-8, but Carthage finished the set on a 14-6 run to seal the match.

Elmhurst hit .171 with 33 kills and 13 errors in 117 attempts while the Lady Reds hit .316 with 49 kills and 12 errors in 117 attempts.

Bailey Brouwer led Elmhurst in the loss with 11 kills.
Kayla Mast finished with eight kills and six digs.
Payton Froats and
Taylor Zurliene finished with five kills apiece while
Hannah Horn led the squad in assists with 22.
Valerie Thomas finished with a team-high 14 digs.

Megan Behrendt led Carthage with 12 kills and 12 digs while Kebisek and Autumn McGee tallied 10 kills apiece. Laura de Rosales finished with a team-best 22 digs while Ellie LeCount finished with 40 assists.

Elmhurst resumes CCIW play on Friday, October 11, by hosting Wheaton College.
