Bluejays Stumble at Millikin

DECATUR, Ill. – The Elmhurst football team battled rainy conditions in a 34-0 road loss at Millikin University.
 
Elmhurst slipped to 1-6 overall and 1-5 in the CCIW while Millikin moved to 4-3 overall and 3-3 in league play.
 
The game was tight through the opening quarter as both teams started with impressive drives. Millikin took the opening kickoff and drove 65 yards, scoring on an eight-yard Ladavion Severado touchdown run to put the Big Blue up 6-0. Elmhurst appeared to have an answer on its first drive, marching 65 yards to the Millikin six-yard line before coming up empty. A 25-yard run from Treston Womack and a 35-yard pass from Noah Henkel to Casey Dobczyk sparked the drive and gave Elmhurst a first-and goal from the Big Blue six-yard line. After coming up empty on the first three downs, Matt Burns' field goal attempt was blocked by the Big Blue.
 
Millikin broke things open in the second quarter, scoring on three of their first four possessions to extend its lead to 26-0 at the half. Cal Pohrte tossed three touchdowns in the second quarter for the Big Blue.
 
The Big Blue scored its final points of the day in the third quarter, blocking an Elmhurst punt and returning it 15 yards for a touchdown.
 
Elmhurst struggled to get rolling on offense, finishing with five first downs and 100 yards of offense. The Bluejays rushed for 18 while passing for 82. Millikin totaled 329 yards of offense, rushing for 234 while passing for just 95.
 
Womack led Elmhurst on the ground with 23 yards on 19 carries. Jake Tahaney and Noah Henkel combined to pass for 82 yards while Dobczyk caught two passes for 43 yards for Elmhurst.
 
Pohrte led Millikin with 95 yards through the air and three touchdowns. Severado led the Big Blue on the ground, rushing 15 times for 61 yards and a score.
 
Tavey Durns and Bryce Gable led the Bluejays' defense with nine tackles apiece. Durns also interecepted a Big Blue pass and forced a fumble. Gable added 2.5 tackles for loss for Elmhurst.
 
Elmhurst hosts North Central College on Saturday, November 2.
